A nice lively feel to this 1969 release featuring the livingbrass & living marimbas as they parp their way throughsome of herb alpert's classic tracks, great versions of the"work song" and "wade in the water" make this a greatfun filled bit of tijuana.. very nice...

For their debut, you mostly get their shorter, more "pop-oriented" pieces like "Sympathy", "You Went Away", and "Bird on a Wing". Exception being "Beautiful Scarlet", being more progressive. It would have been nice the compilation included "Iceberg" or "God of War" to show the more progressive moments of their debut.

The Standells had two more top 40 records, "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" and "Why Pick On Me". However, neither achieved the success of "Dirty Water". They were also featured in the motion picture Riot On Sunset Strip, in which they performed the hard driving theme song of the same name.

Sad-tinged folk from Leonda -- an artist who appears to have some Native American affiliations, at least from the themes of the songs -- and who's working here with backings that are well-done, but never too professionally polished! The Paupers help out with a good deal of the instrumentation -- and backings are usually gentle, but with some slightly complicated phrasings in ways that almost remind us a bit of Tim Hardin at times, but which come off quite differently given Leonda's slightly bluesy vocal approach. Titles include "Zono My Bird", "Peace & Pipes", "Make It All Right", "Mother In Love", "Blue Diamond In Platinum Setting", "Mist In The Sky", and "Somebody's Gonna Ask Me Who I Was".
